It was a crippling heat. Air conditioners worked overtime. Oil bubbled up on the roadways. Pursing lips, squinting eyes, turning heads - simple actions, but on a day like today had people breaking into a sweat. Days like this can be dangerous. News stations broadcast their heat wave warnings: water your plants and pets, stay hydrated and out of the heat if you can, and wear cool clothes.
It was 97 degrees, and look at the outfit Abby chose: hooded fleece sweatshirt over a princess dress, over an outfit of shorts and a shirt. She simply explained, "I'm cold, Mother."
