This year Abby told us she wanted to have her birthday at either a park near our house or at Penguin Park in Kansas City. So we thought since we wanted to meet Uncle Josh and Aunt Natalie's new bundle of joy anyway, we would bring the party to Kansas City and party with the relatives on their turf for a change.
Planning a party outside is always risky, but this year we thought we had it made since there had been a drought going on. Turns out we should have planned an outdoor party much earlier in the summer as a form of drought relief because once we tried to get in a 2 ½ hour party, the rains came, right at the time the party was to begin. Luckily for us, we were allowed by the folks who had rented the only pavilion at the park to move to a table out of the weather. Abby was spoiled rotten as she normally is by her grandparents and aunts and uncles and when the rain let up the kids had fun playing after a pizza feast with My Little Pony birthday cake for dessert.
