I am pretty sure that Evan does not really understand what he is saying when he says "Mine!" However, I am betting that he knows what his sister is going to do when he starts saying it to her. He will have nothing in his hands and come up to her and say "MINE!". She will have nothing either, but respond "NO! MINE!". He will repeat "MINE!" and it will go on back and forth for a while. I started asking Abby what was hers during these fights and she looks a little shocked to find out that she doesn't know what she is fighting for.
In the picture, Evan's crib is full - his sister was kind enough to load it with toys.

We call that mine-itis off of Sesame Street. It's amazing how powerful that word can be to kids.
