"Safety is Our First Concern"

All week at school, Abby and her class discussed fire safety. At home, we showed the kids where the smoke detector was in the room, what it sounds like, and what to do if it goes off. They had the hardest part with the thought of leaving all of their toys behind and running outside to safety. Clarice (in the picture above) is Abby's favorite stuffed animal and bedtime buddy. Our little lady broke into tears and asked, "But what if I don't have Clarice? I don't want her to suffer!" This was followed by the most heart-wrenching sobs ever. The following day, the firemen confirmed what Mom and Dad had said about not trying to find toys and only getting to safety, so we hope that it sticks with her.
