Healthwise, we had a rough Christmas this year. The kids were sick with double ear infections and Abby had strep on top of it. Poor Evan was coughing so hard on Christmas Eve that he threw up. Needless to say, we did not go to church because we were in no shape to be there. But the kids made their own little manger scene and put it right next to the fireplace so Santa could see it when he came. It was a cardboard box with Betty playing baby Jesus, wrapped in swaddling clothes, with a cow, lamb, dog, and a horse watching over him. Abby was pretending to be Mary and Evan landed the part of Joseph. They did all of this on their own, it was so sweet to watch it and made us feel like we must be doing something right! But overall, our Christmas was wonderful because we spent every minute together and even though we were coughing, sneezing, and hacking - we did it together as a family and kept that true meaning of Christmas in our hearts. The drawing below is a drawing that Abby did of the manger scene. She drew it in the color blue because blue symbolizes "waiting," probably the reason Mary is often depicted as wearing blue garments.
