Name Calling

Why do people feel the need to change someone's name? If someone has a long name, people feel the need to shorten it, or if a person has a short name, it winds up being lengthened. Brooke is by now probably used to her brother and sister calling her "Brookie." Not sure why they do it, but Evan also likes to say, "Brooke is a cookie!"
