Children's Hospital - A Great Place

Today we went to Children's Hospital. What a great place - everyone was very friendly and helpful and the entire experience from start to finish could not have been any better.

The ultrasound was first, and we did not even have a chance to sit down in the waiting room before they called our name to go on back. Abby must have liked the technician because she just laid there for her while she did the ultrasound. We were both thinking she would be squirming everywhere because she is normally in constant motion. The technician told us that she had two kidneys and that they measured the same size (two of the things they were checking for), but other than that she said that the doctor would have to read the test and we would find out by Monday if there was anything else. The ultrasound only took about 10 minutes. By this time it was about 12:25 (our ultrasound appointment was at 12:30, but we were already finished. Abby's VCUG was scheduled for 1 p.m., so we took a little time to walk down to the cafeteria. Everything at this hospital is set up with children in mind (as it should be) from the cafeteria, waiting rooms, and even the elevator tones (kids' voices).

By 12:55 we were back upstairs and after a short wait, we were called back for the second test. There were 2 techs and 2 doctors there and Mike and I both stayed up by Abby's head to hold her hands during the test and help keep her calm. She did exceedingly well and barely cried at all - mostly when they inserted the catheter. Most of the time she was checking out the room and watching the pictures they were taking of her little body on the monitor. After about 20 minutes we were done and they told us she was the best patient they had so far that day and were surprised at how well she did. The good news was that there was no sign of reflux and everything looked normal.

In other news, it probably won't be long until this little lady has teeth - although these symptons can last for months. There is drool everywhere and she constantly has something in her mouth. I am thinking I can feel little hard bumps just below the surface, so we will see when the first tooth appears.
